About IBPS

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection commonly known as IBPS has been formed under the Government of India to conduct recruitment exams and promotional tests for various government allied organizations. In 1984, when Personnel Staff Selection (PSS) under National Institute of Bank Management was converted into autonomous Institute of Banking Personnel Selection.
The services of IBPS exams are availed by public sector banks, RBI, Insurance bodies and development banks in rural areas like NABARD. There was an exam IBPS Combined Written Exams (IBPS CWE), a Common Written Examination conducted independently and separately for Clerical and Officer level jobs for different PSU Banks. In 2011, it was decided that a single exam will be conducted for all PSU banks. Then three major exams came into existence:
  1. IBPS PO (for Probationary Officer Jobs in PSU Banks)
  2. IBPS Clerk ( Clerical Jobs in PSU Banks)
  3. IBPS SO (Specialist Officer Jobs in PSU Banks).
The State Bank of India despite being a public-sector bank did not participate in the common exam conducted by IBPS because of different hiring needs and long term plans. Hence IBPS conducts a separate exam for SBI- PO, SBI- Clerical, and SBI- SO. Later IBPS RRB was added to the list for the combined exam for all Regional Rural Bank.

The IBPS exams span each year between August to January. The general sequence of IBPS notifications starts with IBPS – PO, followed by IBPS – Clerk and then IBPS – SO. Below is the list of all major IBPS exams in 2017-18:
  • IBPS PO
  • IBPS Clerk
  • IBPS RRB
  • IBPS SO (IT Officer, HR Officer, Marketing Officer, Agriculture Officer)
Speed, Accuracy and Confidentiality are the driving forces behind IBPS which amalgamate modern technology and academic acumen to help the government allied services achieve the common goal of recruiting the best of the best minds. The assessment techniques and selection process done for different client organizations have evolved over the years to global standards. Its main strength that helped it become the most robust testing module lies in its ability to design objective questions testing tools that can conduct a paper at more than 200 test centers across the globe. High level designations like AGM/DGM are filled with bona fide candidates who have proved their mettle in various group dynamics related personality assessments.
